Introduction

Cybersecurity is the source of protection for computers and their networks from malicious attacks resulting in the disclosure of information. Cyber refers to the "technology that includes systems, networks, programs, and data". And security is meant with "the protection of systems, networks, applications, and information". It is the practice of securing computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from harmful objects. The focus of cyber security is to decrease the risk of cyber-attacks and shield against the prohibited manipulation of systems, networks, and technologies. 

Importance of Cybersecurity

Cyber security plays a significant role in the computer world as it safeguards all types of data in the device against threats and cyber attacks. These data can be sensitive, "Protected Health Information" PHI, "Personal Identifiable Information" PII, intellectual property and personal, business or government information. Cybersecurity helps protect raw data or information in systems from harmful objects and attacks. For data protection, many companies develop cybersecurity software. This software helps to secure sensitive data in the system. With the ongoing growth of online platforms, the chances of cyber attacks are also increasing, so knowledge of cyber security is highly essential for the safety of the system. Also, as the number of cyber-attacks increases, companies and organizations, particularly those that deal with information related to national security, health, or financial records, need to use cybersecurity actions and procedures to secure their sensitive business and private information.

Types of Cyber securities

Cybersecurity is classified into four sub-categories. Those types are:

 Application security:  Application Security is to check the security features within applications to prevent security exposure and threats. It helps prevent and improve threats from cyber attackers, data hackers, and other harmful sources. Some examples of application security features are authentication, authorization, encryption, logging, and application security testing. 

Network security : Network security is a collection of specializations that secures the serviceability and solidarity of a company's framework by averting entry within a network of a wide variety of potential threats. It helps to protect data from cyber-attacks and verifies the network is usable and reliable. Some examples of network security are firewalls, antivirus scanning devices, and content filtering devices. 

Cloud Security : Cloud security is the policies made with technologies to control and protect the data stored on the cloud from cyberattacks or any possible harmful threats. These actions secure user and device authentication, data and resource access control. Some examples of cloud security are Identity and access management (IAM), Governance (policies on threat prevention, detection, and mitigation), Data retention (DR) and business continuity (BC) planning. 

Internet of Things (IoT)security:  IoT security is the technology focused on securing connected devices and networks in the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT devices are physical objects with sensors, processing ability, software, and other technologies that connect and exchange data between two connected devices. Some examples of Internet of Things(IoT) security are CCTV cameras and trackers that sense and capture data for vehicles, ships and goodS.

Benefits of Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity provides many advantages for protecting the user data in the system. Some of such benefits of cybersecurity are: 

  • Cyber safety provides enhanced cyberspace security, improves cyber resilience, and speeds up cyber, data & information protection for businesses. 
  • It protects individual private information, networks & resources from getting leaked from the computer system. It tackles computer hackers and averts any harmful attacks, and protects the system from any outside invasion. 
  • Cybercrimes can occur through IoT, Wi-Fi, and personal devices and sensitive data, analytics, and strategies can be hacked and leaked. Thus, cyber security protects home Wi-Fi from tracking data from the computer system and serves as a secure centre to store data. 
  • Cybersecurity is no more limited to security only. It links with socio- economics like politics, industry, health, education and critical infrastructure. 
  • It helps to protect the business's reputation by keeping the company's information and data secure and avoiding cyberattacks. Technologies such as cloud security and network security are to strengthen authentication. Thus, this can open the pathway to future ventures, recommendations, and expansions. 
  • Cyber security also helps prevent the crashing of websites as it protects the system from any harmful bugs or virus attacks. It reduces computer chilling & crashes. 
  • Cyber security helps companies to protect against harmful schemes, attacks, identity theft, and financial losses. Data or information from any management secured by cybersecurity mechanisms is considered highly reliable and can be applied without hesitation.

What is the importance of cyber security to students?

As we know, with computer and online cyber threats may arise, and it is essential to provide your child with the knowledge about simple social engineering scams, like phishing ("an attack that attempts to steal your money, or your identity, by getting you to reveal personal information") and other security attacks like ransomware and other malware for stealing personal data or intellectual property. It involves recognizing the benefits and chances offered by the virtual world while understanding the risks and averting possible threats.

What is the importance of cyber security to society?

With the increasing digital component in India, the importance of cybersecurity will only keep growing as Indians have taken to mobile broadband driven by affordable charges, cheaper smartphones, and a spurt in the availability of audio-visual content in all Indian languages. Financial services, payments and health services are all connected to virtual platforms and are anticipated to increase due to covid-19. There has been a rapid increase in the use of the online environment where millions of users have access to internet resources and are providing content on a daily basis.

Cybersecurity is a landscape that is constantly developing, with new technologies introduced every day creating chances for hackers who are continuously looking for new ways to damage private as well as public information.
